Hard to believe, but we’re just four short days away from the mobile industry’s largest stage – Mobile World Congress 2018. Every year, the industry’s most influential companies and thought leaders gather to show off the latest devices and technologies, and to identify the trends that will shape the future of mobile connectivity. So what can we expect to see next week in Barcelona? This year, it all comes down to 5G.
Everyone’s talking about 5G wireless this year, and with good reason. We’re not exaggerating when we say 5G has the potential to change the mobile industry as we know it, delivering the speeds needed to power technology like automation, virtualization, and the next generation of Internet of Things (IoT)
In fact, AT&T recently announced it will bring true 5G speeds to 12 U.S. markets by the end of the year. Late last year, Verizon also announced their solution, which will also be ready in select markets by the second half of the year. It’s safe to say we’ll hear more about carriers’ 5G plans, both here in the U.S. and globally, at MWC this year.
Here at Zinwave, we understand the sea change 5G will bring. The jump to 5G will be the most significant leap in technology since the industry went to EDGE speeds several years ago, ushering in the modern smartphone. We predict 5G, then, will usher in the next generation of mobile connectivity, going beyond the smartphone to bring things like driverless cars and virtual reality closer to actuality.
However, at MWC 2018 we’re not likely to see 5G-equipped devices just yet. Instead, the conversation will center around how the carriers are delivering 5G. So we’re talking spectrum, network infrastructure, in-building wireless, and other hardware. This is a good thing, because in order to harness the increased power and speed, we’ll need to be ready to access 5G where we use our devices the most – indoors.
That’s why we’ve designed our in-building distributed antenna system (DAS) solution to support 5G today on a single hardware layer. So when the major U.S. mobile operators flip the switch on their 5G markets later this year, Zinwave will be the only DAS provider that will be ready no matter what band the carriers are using. In fact, Zinwave’s UNItivity solution is the only solution that will support CBRS, FirstNet, and all carrier bands simultaneously. Last week we discussed our patented 3F advantage, and how Zinwave DAS solutions are currently 5G ready.
We’re looking forward to MWC not just for the excitement of being at the epicenter of all things mobile, but also because we’ll be making our own splash when it comes to the next generation of in-building wireless connectivity. Zinwave already has the most reliable in-building wireless DAS solution that delivers low total cost of ownership, and you can bet we’re about to make it even better.
If you’ll be in Barcelona next week, stop by the Zinwave booth in Hall 5, stand 5J51 to see the next generation of in-building wireless. And stay tuned to the Zinwave blog – we’ll be blogging MWC news and trends live as we see them. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter as well for live updates throughout the week, so even if you can’t be there you won’t miss the action.
