The Challenge

This industrial high security site required wireless coverage in multiple buildings totalling an area of about 3m sq ft. The wireless services required were for multi- operator Cellular, PCS and 800 MHz iDEN, public safety UHF (LMR and SMR), 900 MHz paging, and 900 MHz wireless remote dosimetry monitoring system. Also required was a WiFi capability. The deployment was to be made in 2 phases, the first to cover crucial work areas for an upcoming plant shutdown, when the site will be serviced.

The Zinwave Solution

Zinwave's 3000 system is providing this site with robust coverage for all the required services over a single platform from one set of hardware. The fact that Zinwave Wideband DAS system is service independent means that it can support any specialist service and special RF wireless and monitoring systems such as the one used here for Dosimetry, without the need for service specific equipment. The system is also configured to accommodate up to 2 WiFi Access Points at each Primary and Secondary Hub for future addition.addition. This eliminates the need for a parallel WiFi network, and using Zinwave's unique service distribution feature, (via the programmable switch matrix in each hub), permits an optimum capacity/coverage for the WiFi Deployment.

The other crucial factor was that the Indoor coverage system should utilise the existing multi-mode fibre with multiple patch panels and ST optical connectors, which Zinwave's DAS supported effectively. This meant that there was no need for the considerable expense of splicing any fibre for new angle polished connectors as would have been required with other candidate DAS solutions.

The main hub was located in the main office building fed from off-air repeaters, and the existing fibre network was utilised to distribute the signals to the remote units in all the other buildings. Fibre distribution meant low cost deployment, but especially important it also meant faster installation which was key for limited time access to restricted areas in some parts of the plant.

Zinwave's system was the only system that could support the full required range of services on a single platform, utilising the legacy MMF network.
