Case Studies: US Corporate Building
The Challenge
A high profile 16 floor city building (with 3 floors underground), being renovated for multi-tenanted occupancy, with the aim for high security standards and cutting edge technology, required indoor wireless coverage, to provide its tenants with improved access to multiple mobile services inside the building. In addition to that, improved coverage for several public and federal public safety services, and for the facilities 2-way radio were also required.
A further requirement was for a phased deployment. The coverage system needed to be deployed in two phases:
- Phase one to ensure coverage for the facilities UHF 2-way radio services during the year-long construction along with Sprint iDEN, AT&T and T-Mobile services (covering GSM, iDEN, CDMA and UMTS services).
- Phase two to be completed after construction, allows system expansion to guarantee coverage for Washington DC public safety and federal services, plus any specialist commercial services not provided in the first phase and required by the individual tenants.
The Zinwave Solution
Zinwave's 3000 DAS solution supplied this building with a unique system that supports multiple services over a common infrastructure and set of equipment. Its cost competitiveness in a multiple service environment provided the best cost per sq/ft, allowing it to be selected in a competitive bid to provide indoor wireless for the building.
With its service independent capability that lends itself to phased deployments, it was ideal for this task. During construction, the blast proof windows being installed, which are highly attenuating to wireless signals, would block the required services from reaching inside the building, hence necessitating the first phase deployment of the services required at that time. Future expansion of the system to accommodate specific commercial services required by different tenants, can be easily provided on their specific floors, through floor by floor insertion at the Secondary Hubs.
Zinwave's system with its flexible double star configuration can support ubiquitous services, while also providing a convenient access point for each tenant to have the specific commercial services of their choice for their particular floor added. The solution is easily scaled from low density of services deployment to an expanded phase with additional services for all tenants. The service distribution feature and secondary hub local service injection capability of the Zinwave system, allowed the easy straightforward deployment for the second phase of additional and tenant specific services.
